PHOTOSHOPPED: Colbie Caillat Music Video “Try”

Colbie Caillat’s new music video for her song Try is very interesting!  Elle Magazine interviewed her about it.  I wish Elle would take note themselves and reduce the demand for photoshopped images!  They photoshop everything but chubby bloggers attending their events.

If you’d like to purchase the new album you can do so here:

No Longer A Slumdog: Bringing Hope to Children in Crisis

Some of you know that I took a trip to India to meet several partners in a ministry there that is addressing the issue of sex trafficking of young girls and women.  India is such an amazing place with people that have great financial wealth as next door neighbors to people living in extreme poverty.  The children of India and Asia really are easily forgotten by their own societies and for people that live in other countries, even more so.  So when I came across the book No Longer A Slumdog:  Bringing Hope to Children in Crisis I was grateful to learn more about the stories of these children.

For me, when I traveled to India the most important part of the trip were the relationships I built with real people in the slums and communities.  They are people just like you and I with similar thoughts and interests.  This book gives people who may not have the opportunity to travel like I did a chance to hear and learn the stories of real people.  To understand better why some of the problems happen the way they do and then also offers real solutions.

Here are a few facts I learned from this book:

  • 1.2 billion children worldwide are between the ages of 4 and 14.  More than 300 million of those children reside in South Asian countries.  If these children formed their own country, it would be as large as the United States.
  • 150 million of the children in this age frame are child laborers, employed in violation of the United Nations standards.  Some of the forms of employment are very dangerous, toxic, and in the case of the girls I met in India involve sexual abuse.
  • Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing criminal enterprises, soon to surpass the drug trade.  More than half of trafficking victims are from Asia and the Pacific.

This book not only takes those facts and puts a face on them, but also tells you real life stories of boys and girls so that you can begin to relate with them and understand the situation better.

Gospel for Asia (GFA) is a missions organization dedicated to reaching the most unreached.  Thousands of GFA-supported pastors and missionaries serve full-time to share the love of Christ in 10 Asian countries.  One of the things I like the most about GFA is that they employ national missionaries.  These are missionaries that already know the language, customs, and culture of the people to whom they minister.  They don’t need visas and they can live economically at the same level as their neighbors.  It is a very effective approach and means that when you donate to the organization, your money is spent very wisely and effectively.

No Longer A Slumdog:  Bringing Hope to Children in Crisis gives you a chance to learn more about this organization and how they have helped the children that share their stories through this book.  They really give you a great idea of what is happening in each country and then how you can help them accomplish their mission.

I tried ScoreBig™ for tickets to Kings of Leon!

image08
I am so blessed to be a blogger because I just SCORED BIG and was offered the opportunity to try out ScoreBig.com.  The site was extremely easy to use and I was able to snag discounted tickets to Kings of Leon.

Here’s a music video of one of their most popular songs:

This is awesome to see them in concert because their music is great, but did you know they are Christian as well?  They’ve been mentioned in Relevant Magazine about their faith journey.  I always appreciate it when Christians perform well amongst their secular peers.

So my friend Kelly, from my small group, and I will be attending the concert.  But I want to tell you about how easy it was to grab these tickets.

First of all, here are a few things you should know about ScoreBig.com:

  • You are guaranteed to save on each and every ticket on ScoreBig.com
  • Tickets for sports, concerts, theater, Broadway, family shows, and attractions
  • No fees – free delivery
  • Choose Your Seating Area – all seats ordered together will be next to each other
  • Tell us what you want to pay – you have all the control, it’s thrilling!
  • Get an instant answer – you find out right away if your offer has been accepted

I loved that I was able to get through the site very quickly and easily.  There were no hassles through the entire process and it was very easy to navigate.

Here is kind of a step-by-step on how ScoreBig.com works:

  • Choose your event
  • They don’t tell you what to pay, you decide…how much you save is up to you
  • By choosing a seating area rather than an exact seat, you’re giving the ticket providers the flexibility they need to give you great deals
  • Get an instant answer

And, literally, it was in an instant.

Here are a few screenshots:

The entire process took exactly 7 minutes. No joke! That is amazing.

You might also want some other info about ScoreBig.com so here it is straight from the horses mouth:

ScoreBig.com enables consumers to get great tickets for live sports, concert and theater events – at guaranteed savings of up to 60 percent. ScoreBig.com customers pick their own price on seats from the floor to the rafters, always pay less than box office price, and never pay any fees. For its partners, ScoreBig.com is the first and only opaque sales channel to move unsold ticket inventory in a way that protects the ticket owner’s brand and full-price sales. Headquartered in Los Angeles, Calif., ScoreBig.com was founded in 2009 and is backed by Bain Capital Ventures and U.S. Venture Partners. ScoreBig.com was recently recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Most Promising Companies and by Billboard as one of the 10 Best Start-ups of 2012.

In summary, I highly recommend the site!  It was very easy and quick to use.  I also really appreciate that when you get your final bill there are no surprises!  Whatever you put in, is what you get if your negotiated price is accepted.

My Amazon Prime Trial

Before I left for my mission trip, I took out a trial of Amazon Prime so that I could get some shoes to wear in the slums of India with free 2-day shipping.  Let’s be honest.  So because I had just walked in the slums of India and was a bit distracted, I kind of didn’t remember that I needed to cancel my Amazon Prime membership.  I totally intended to do that.

Then, when I forgot, I noticed it on my bank account records.  And since I had already paid for it, I decided to investigate what Prime was all about.  I’ve heard good things, so I told myself that maybe this wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

I am here to tell you that Amazon Prime is awesome.

Amazon Prime is a membership program that offers special benefits for just $99 per year.

Members can:

  • Instantly watch over 40,000 movies and TV episodes with titles for everyone
  • Borrow books from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library
  • Get unlimited FREE two-day shipping with no minimum order size

This is great for me!  I already needed to order filters for my water pitcher and got free shipping on those.  Then someone suggested I watch a movie, and I just looked it up on Amazon and used Apple AirPlay to send it to my Apple T.V.  I sat on my couch and watched the movie approximately five (5) minutes after they suggested it to me on the phone!

So the estimated value of the shipping for those water filters and the cost of renting a movie already covers about 20% of the cost of the entire year of Amazon Prime.  Seriously.  So, it won’t take me long to make this worth it all.

I already use the free Amazon app to discover items when I am in stores and often times the prices are lower on Amazon so now I can just order the items directly from the app while I’m in the other store to get the item for a lower price (and delivered for free to my home in 2 business days).  Most of the time, I don’t need something immediately and it would save me a few dollars to wait for the shipment.

There is even a feature on the app right now called Flow where you click on it and then you can literally just wave your phone camera over multiple items on a store shelf and it scans them and picks up what the items are adding them to a convenient list.  Then you can go through the list and select items individually choosing to either purchase or add them to a wish list.  This is really nice for when you aren’t sure exactly what you are looking for and want to compare things later online.

I have also used the free Amazon app to read Kindle books on my iPhone.  With Amazon Prime, you can borrow a book from the lending library for free.  If you have another device, you can use the free Amazon app to read them there as well!

So, although it’s a fee that was deducted from my bank account I believe that my loyalty will end off paying off in the end because I will be able to get things at a significant discount and also avoid paying shipping costs.

Here’s what is amazing:

You can try Amazon Prime free for 30 days, too!

Million Dollar Arm Movie Review #MillionDollarArm

I just returned from India so when I found out there was a movie that was going to be partially filmed there, I had to see it with my friends.  Million Dollar Arm was amazing!  I can tell you for sure that everything about how they depicted India is true.  Yes, there are cows in houses.  Yes, there are random animals on the back of motorcycles.  Yes, people in India are very family oriented and hard working.  Yes, it has a unique smell.

The story in this movie is based on a true story that was originally a book.  (I know, some people believe the book is always better so here is a link to the book on Amazon:  Million Dollar Arm: Sometimes to Win, You Have to Change the Game.)  The story is about two boys who are recruited to play major league baseball through a game show in India.  It is really a very inspirational story and now I am a huge fan of these guys.  I literally miss India like no other place I have ever visited.  It is such a special, amazing place.  And since I have been to India and feel so strongly about it, I feel a connection to these two guys.  I love their stories!  I strongly recommend that you see the movie and, of course, I have found a really good deal for you so that you can see it as well:

You might want to watch the trailer:

As described on the official YouTube movie trailer:

In a last ditch effort to save his career as a sports agent, JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm) concocts a scheme to find baseball’s next great pitching ace. Hoping to find a young cricket pitcher he can turninto a Major League Baseball star, JB travels to India to produce a realityshow competition called “Million Dollar Arm.” With the help of a cantankerous but eagle-eyed retired baseball scout (Alan Arkin) he discovers Dinesh (played by Madhur Mittal from “Slumdog Millionaire”) and Rinku (played by Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi”), two 18 year old boys who have no idea about playing baseball, yet have a knack for throwing a fastball. Hoping to sign them to major league contracts and make a quick buck, JB brings the boys home to America to train. While the Americans are definitely out of their element in India — the boys, who have never left their rural villages — are equally challenged when they come to the States. As the boys learn the finer points of baseball — JB, with the help of his charming friend Brenda (Lake Bell) — learns valuable life lessons about teamwork, commitment and what it means to be a family.

Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay written by Tom McCarthy, Walt Disney Pictures’ drama “Million Dollar Arm” stars Jon Hamm, Aasif Mandvi, Suraj Sharma, Lake Bell, Madhur Mittal, Pitobash and Alan Arkin. The producers are Mark Ciardi, Gordon Gray and Joe Roth. The executive producers are Palak Patel, Kevin Hollaran,Bill Simmons and Connor Schell. The film will be release in the United States on May 16, 2014.

And, if you’re a baseball fan, you can buy an autographed baseball:

My guess is the price is going to go up after this movie gets out there, so buy it now!

I also want to mention that the soundtrack was AH-MAZING.  I’ve already downloaded it myself.  You can get it on Amazon  (Million Dollar Arm) or on iTunes:

Book Club: #NoLongerASlumDog

I have finally made it!  I can now say I have a Book Club.  When I started this blog, I literally used the Oprah website as a guide for setting up my categories, so it’s come full circle now because I’ve been asked to promote a book.

No Longer A Slumdog - Featured on WomanlyWoman.com

If you would like to join my book club, all you have to do is order the FREE book:

Then share that you will be joining me in reading the book by clicking to tweet this:

(I will be compensated a nominal amount if you order the book, but the book is 100% free to you.)

Here’s how it all started:

My friend Stacy sent me a message on Facebook to let me know there was a free book about the suffering children of Asia.  The reason she sent it to me was because I was about to take a trip to India for this very purpose, to help children in Asia.  So, of course since it was free, I jumped at the opportunity to read the book.  I even posted about it on Instagram:

I was surprised at how quickly the book came! I received the book, began to read it, and then researched the organization. I became a fan of Gospel for Asia quickly and wanted to learn more so I then watched their simulcast of the movie #VeilOfTears. This movie was instrumental in preparing me for my trip to India.

In the meantime, my new friend Sara was following the hashtag for the movie and was surprised to find that a blogger was already covering it! She favorited some of my tweets. Simultaneously, another person from Gospel for Asia found my blog post about the movie! Then in a meeting, the two of them realized they had both discovered my coverage of the movie and decided to contact me to ask me to promote the No Longer A Slumdog book!

So after I returned from India, Sara and I had a Skype meeting to discuss the opportunity for me to promote this book to you:

This Skype meeting was great! We talked about India, shared our stories, and worked out our business arrangement. But this was the best part! At the end of the meeting, Sara prayed. She prayed for this project of promoting the book and she prayed for all involved. This was exciting for me, because I have never had a business meeting in my life that ended in prayer.

If you would like to join me in this journey, please order the book:
No Longer A Slumdog

There will be many blog posts to follow, but I can tell you from what I’ve begun reading already this book will change your life. Here is a description on the back of the book:

Those with no voice – the suffering children of Asia – tell their stories. And as you listen to them, you share their anguish and rejoice in their triumphs. The whole world seems to stop as you look on.

I really think this will be an amazing journey and I would love to have you with me on it!
