Although I didn’t grow up in the city limits of the Queen City (Cincinnati, OH), I consider this place to be my hometown.  I’ve spent more time living in the city limits than any other town in my adult life and as a child I came here so often it was like I lived here.  I grew up on a farm east of Cincinnati and coming to the city was always very exciting.  As a little kid I always had dreams of how awesome it would be to live in this city and now that I am only a few miles from where the Reds play I will still get a surge of energy running through my body when in certain areas of town.

As someone who has lived as an “insider” AND and “outsider” to this city, I have an interesting perspective.  What is hilarious is that I am inside and out a Cincinnatian.  My dad, having grown up in Cincinnati, raised us to be.  When we would go on family vacations and people would ask us where we were from, he would always answer “Cincinnati” with no hesitation.

So recently an article written by Paul Franke was published in BuzzFeed, 31 Ways to Tell You’re From Cincinnati, that I feel is dead on to describing the people of this lovely place.  Especially me.  Here are the ways you can tell I am from Cincinnati:

I remember my teacher in school telling us that Rain Man was being filmed.  I know people who were extras on The Ides of March.

The other day at Panera, I randomly said the word Soda when ordering Pop.  I apologized.

I agree that Ohio being Red or Blue is about Xavier or UC.  I have a cousin that has gone to each, but I have to say I am a Xavier Basketball fan even though I’ve lived on the UC campus.

I absolutely have German heritage.  On both sides.  And I tell people all the time.

I live in the community in which Gold Star was founded.  And I know that.  And I tell people about it.  And I explain why I prefer it.

I do point out that George Clooney was born in Cincinnati.  Then I proceed to tell people about how his family almost bought the house I grew up in.  They didn’t, but they looked at it.  That counts for something.

I hate that the airport is in NKY.  When I have friends visiting, I have them fly into Dayton and drive an extra 2 hours just so I don’t have to explain why our airport is in another state.

I do not want to move out of Cincinnati because of LaRosa’s delivery.  I always suggest that people visiting order it.

I really am convinced the Reds will win the World Series.  I don’t even watch the stats, I just have faith.

The thing that makes me most sad about being Gluten Free is that I can’t eat Grippo’s BBQ chips.

People from the Bluegrass State are interesting.  I go there, but everytime I am there I feel like I am in a foreign country.  Seriously, I do.  I like the hills, though.  I also like the view of Cincinnati from Kentucky.

I am always confused about what bridge I am on while driving from Kentucky to downtown Cincinnati, but most likely because I am teary eyed looking at our beautiful skyline.  I also just try to keep my car off of the Purple People bridge.

Great list Liz! Glad to see someone who was a fan. I am a big fan of this list! Thanks for reminding me that I wasn’t wrong about there being a Cincinnati outside of Over the Rhine.

Don’t get me wrong, Paul. I checked into OTR on 4 Square yesterday. I parked there because it’s only $4 and I needed the exercise on a walk to Fountain Square. :) Check out this tweet: https://twitter.com/WomanlyWoman/status/368927630386425856 And, BTW, you should join our #CincyBloggers group on Facebook.
